How to Create Listings That Actually Sell on Olux

How to Create Listings That Actually Sell on Olux

Reading time: 5 minutes

You've decided to sell something — great! But between snapping a quick photo and actually getting a buyer to message you, there's a world of difference. Whether you're clearing out your apartment before a move or selling that barely-used kitchen gadget, how you present your item makes all the difference.

Here's what separates listings that sell in hours from those that sit for weeks.

Start With Photos That Tell the Full Story

Your photos are the first (and sometimes only) thing a buyer looks at before deciding to tap on your listing. A blurry, dark photo taken on a messy kitchen counter won't inspire confidence — even if the item itself is in perfect condition.

Use natural light. Place the item near a window or take it outside. Daylight makes colours look accurate and details pop. Avoid using your camera flash, which tends to wash everything out.

Show every angle. Buyers in Luxembourg are practical. They want to see the front, back, sides, and any close-ups of wear, scratches, or labels. For furniture, include a shot that shows scale — place a common object nearby or mention the dimensions.

Be honest about flaws. Got a small scratch on that IKEA shelf? Photograph it. Buyers appreciate transparency, and it prevents awkward conversations later. A listing that says "small scratch on the top — see photo 4" builds far more trust than one that hides it.

Aim for 4–6 photos per listing. One photo says "I don't really care about selling this." Six well-chosen photos say "here's everything you need to decide."

Write a Title That People Actually Search For

Think about what a buyer would type into the search bar. "Nice table" won't get found. "IKEA LACK Coffee Table – White, 90x55cm" absolutely will.

A strong title includes the brand (if applicable), what the item is, and one or two key details like colour, size, or model. Keep it factual — save the storytelling for the description.

Good titles:

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – 256GB, Phantom Black, Unlocked
  • Children's Bicycle 20" – Decathlon B'Twin, Blue, Ages 6–9
  • Sofa Bed – IKEA FRIHETEN, Dark Grey, Good Condition

Titles to avoid:

  • Phone for sale!!!
  • Bike
  • MUST GO ASAP!!!! (all caps won't help you here)

Set a Fair Price — and Show Your Reasoning

Pricing is where most sellers struggle. Too high, and your listing collects dust. Too low, and buyers suspect something's wrong.

Check what similar items are selling for. Browse Olux and other platforms to see what comparable items are listed at. If your 2-year-old washing machine retails for €600 new, listing it at €500 won't attract buyers — but €250 with a note about its condition might.

Be upfront about why you've priced it the way you have. A line like "Purchased 6 months ago for €350, selling because we're relocating" gives buyers the context they need. It also signals that you're a reasonable person to negotiate with.

Consider using round numbers. Pricing at €50 instead of €47 makes your listing feel clean and straightforward. And if you're open to offers, say so — "€120, open to reasonable offers" invites conversation without underselling.

Write a Description That Answers Questions Before They're Asked

Every message a buyer has to send you before making a decision is a chance for them to lose interest. A great description anticipates their questions.

Cover the basics: What is it? What condition is it in? Why are you selling it? How old is it? Does it come with original packaging or accessories?

Add the practical details: Dimensions for furniture. Storage capacity for electronics. Age range for children's items. Compatibility info for parts and accessories.

Mention pickup logistics. Luxembourg is small, but convenience still matters. State your general area (Kirchberg, Esch-sur-Alzette, Ettelbruck — wherever you are) and whether you're flexible on timing. If the item is heavy, mention whether you can help carry it to the buyer's car.

Here's an example of a solid description:

Selling our Bugaboo Fox 3 stroller in Forest Green. Purchased new in November 2024 from Baby Corner in Bertrange for €1,150. Used for about 8 months — in very good condition with normal signs of use. Comes with rain cover, cup holder, and original manual. Selling because our child has outgrown it.

Pickup in Gasperich. Available evenings and weekends. Happy to show it working before you buy. Price is firm at €550.

Choose the Right Category and Add Relevant Details

Putting your listing in the right category makes it visible to the people who are actually looking for it. A winter jacket listed under "Home & Garden" won't get seen by anyone browsing clothing.

Take a moment to select the most specific category available. If Olux offers filters for size, brand, or condition, fill those in too. The more complete your listing, the better it ranks in search results and the easier it is for the right buyer to find you.

Respond Quickly and Be Professional

Once your listing is live, your job isn't done. Buyers on marketplaces tend to go with whoever responds first. If someone messages you at 7 PM and you reply the next afternoon, chances are they've already found another seller.

Keep your notifications on, reply promptly, and be polite even if the offer isn't what you hoped for. A simple "Thanks for your interest, but the lowest I can go is €X" keeps the door open. Ghosting or responding rudely will cost you future sales too — buyers remember.

Quick Checklist Before You Publish

  • 4–6 clear photos in good lighting, including any flaws
  • Specific, searchable title with brand, item name, and key details
  • Fair price based on current market, with brief reasoning
  • Description that covers condition, age, accessories, and dimensions
  • Your general location and availability for pickup
  • Correct category and all relevant filters filled in

Your listing is your shopfront. A little extra effort upfront can mean the difference between a quick, smooth sale and weeks of silence. Happy selling!
